Overview

FOSFA International is the global professional trade association supporting the international trading, shipping and processing of vegetable and animal oils and fats, oilseeds, and their derivatives. Operating under the principle of “For the Trade, By the Trade, With the Trade,” the Federation plays a central role in facilitating international commerce across the oils, seeds and fats supply chain.

The Federation develops and administers a comprehensive range of internationally recognised Standard Form Contracts covering CIF, C&F and FOB trading terms. These contracts encompass commodities including soybeans, sunflower seed, rapeseed, vegetable oils, marine oils and fats, refined oils and fats from origins worldwide, together with differing methods of transportation and trade terms. Approximately 85% of global trade in oils and fats is conducted under FOSFA contracts.

These internationally accepted contracts provide commercial certainty and legal protection for trading parties, helping to reduce risk and establish clear procedures for the settlement of disputes through arbitration. The Federation also administers an internationally respected arbitration service that supports the efficient resolution of commercial disputes arising from trading transactions.

In addition to its contractual and arbitration services, FOSFA International delivers education, training and professional development programmes designed to equip industry participants with the technical, contractual and operational knowledge required for the international oils and fats trade. Its educational services support both new entrants and experienced professionals across the sector.

The Federation also develops and administers internationally recognised schemes for Member Analysts and Member Superintendents, helping to ensure that standards of sampling, inspection and analysis continue to meet the evolving needs and demands of the global trade.

Today, FOSFA International has nearly 1,300 members across 95 countries. Its membership includes producers and processors, shippers and dealers, traders, brokers and agents, superintendents, analysts and laboratories, shipowners and shipbrokers, tank storage companies, arbitrators, consultants, lawyers, insurers and other specialist service providers connected with the international oils, seeds and fats trade.
